I was born and raised in India. After degrees
in Economics and Public Administration,
I abandoned my plans of becoming a tenured bureaucrat for a career in advertising, as an
art director. This happened after meeting
a Creative Director at Ogilvy – a meeting set
up by my Mom, who thought I’d be good at Advertising. My Dad, a bureaucrat himself,
is still kinda pissed about this.

After working for a spell in the Indian ad industry, I made my way West, to Texas, to investigate a formal education in Art Direction. A prolonged stint at The Richards Group in Dallas followed.

Bitten by the Director bug and the desire to
work on more car stuff, I moved West once again. To Innocean Worldwide in Huntington Beach, California, where I scratched my directorial itch and worked extensively on Hyundai.

I ran the Thousand Dollar Shave Society, Atomic Candy, and Organic Doggie Treat accounts for the agency. I managed multiple teams across disciplines–traditional, digital, and social–to produce ideas and campaigns that have won noteworthy acclaim. Our ‘Baby On Purpose’ campaign for the Shave Society was 1 of 5 Integrated Campaigns selected for the Communication Arts Advertising Annual in 2015. Our outdoor campaigns for Atomic Candy have been selected by Lürzers Archive 4 consecutive times, while our spots won consecutive Bronze Epicas. Our Organic Doggie Treats work won a Bronze Clio, multiple Bronze LIAs, and even got me on the SHOOT New Director Showcase.

On Hyundai, I’ve solved complex strategic conundrums to successfully launch multiple new car models–the Tucson, the Elantra, the Ioniq, and the Sonata–creating platforms for other disciplines to adopt and leap from in the process.

I left the agency side and went freelance in May 2018, after signing with Slash Dynamic (formerly The Cavalry Productions) as a director. My freelance stints in the past months have included Apple and Amazon.

I’ve taught the ad program at Texas A&M University - Commerce as an adjunct since 2006, revitalizing it and making it one of the most successful programs in the country. It was immensely satisfying. I find great joy in mentoring young talent and seeing them succeed.

I used to be a freelance cartoonist, and once had a short-lived strip in a very conservative business daily. The strip died after I used the term ‘navel lint’, which was deemed unsavory. Sigh.

While in college, I ran a concert promotion company.

I’ve been collecting vinyl since the 80’s, and listen exclusively to analog at home. My current set up includes a Rega RP6 turntable, an Audio Research tube preamp, a Mcintosh MA 6500 amp and Focal Chorus 816 speakers. A very pleasing rig.

I also collect vintage Fillmore-era concert posters, especially Gunther Kieser’s work.

I have zero musical talent, and compensate with enthusiasm.

Table Tennis is my sport of choice, and I was Captain of my college team. I’m a 2000-level player who cuts and glues his own rubber. And I call it a “Bat”, not a “Paddle”. I’d spank you with either.

My wife has a PhD in Sociology and is an Adjunct Professor at Cal State Long Beach teaching Women’s Studies. We have two kids, a boy and a girl, who tend to love all my work. My wife, however, is usually on the fence with most of it.

We live in Long Beach, California. We love it here.
